Born in Montreal in 1966, Elle Flanders is a filmmaker and photographer based in Toronto. Her recent film, Bird on a Wire, a dual-screen projection with a live music performance, premiered at the 2006 Berlin International Film Festival, with subsequent performances in Toronto, Taipei, Ramallah, and Montreal. Her feature-length documentary, Zero Degrees of Separation also premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival and has toured extensively, winning awards internationally. Flanders is currently in Palestine working on a new experimental documentary about Ramallah, aportrait of a city. Her photo installation, What Isn’t There, about Palestinian villages that no longer exist, is an ongoing project that has been in the making for the past fifteen years. It was recently exhibited at Contact Photo08 and at Akau Gallery in Toronto.
